2017, Trip #11

Thunder-basin Grassland Wyoming, Friday the the 13th of Oct, Ash and Myself.

We had planned to stay for most of three days, so much for plans.  Friday the 13th wasn’t to bad.  The weather was nice with very little wind.  We had plans to scout that day and some of the next.  Shooting on whatever ranches we found and head back in the afternoon Sunday.  Didn’t work out that way.

We got in about 3 hours of shooting on two different places.  One we hadn’t shot on, the other we have a few times near Lance Creek, WY.  As a result together we shot 136 prairie dogs, me only 63 of them.

I shot my Remington 700 223 AI and used up some bits and pieces of three kinds of reloads, 30 of this, 40 of that, and 30 of another.  Due to a little wind that came up and using three kinds of loads.  I didn’t do real well, missed some.

2017 Trip #11 CHANCE of rain turned to SNOW

We had planned to get up the next day and do more scouting and probably some shooting.  The wind was supposed to come up with a CHANCE of rain.  When we headed to breakfast it was already cloudy with about 25 mph wind.  On the way to do some scouting it started raining, then SNOWING.  WELCOME TO WYOMING.  It didn’t snow hard but when you have 20 – 25 mph wind, it’s cold.  Found a place to shoot that was a nice looking dog town, but NO prairie dogs were out at all.  Didn’t shoot a single shot, nothing.  Decided to do some more scouting, no luck.   We stopped at a few ranches, but they had all headed to town.  We headed home, one of those trips.
