2017 Trip #2

Mar 29 & 30 with Ed Hall and myself

Went on another short trip Wed and Thur to do some scouting and shooting in Wyoming. I had a lead on a new ranch to shoot on and it payed off, I actually got two ranches. We didn’t get on the first ranch until after 1:00 PM on Thur and left at around 5:30.

When we got up the next day it was very overcast and looked like it would rain at any minute. We took our time and got to the ranch and on a different dog town around 9:30. It was very cloudy and we had a little windy so not many dogs were out. The town was large and had several fresh holes, dog are there, they just weren’t up. We didn’t stay long , left around noon, because weather was moving in South of us.  March in Wyoming you don’t know what the weather will do.

It was a 5 hour trip from Denver out in the middle of nowhere.  I sure wouldn’t want to break down.  It would cost a pocket full of money to get towed to civilization.  Cell phones didn’t work either.

I used my twins, two worked over and re-chambered Rem 700 SPS factory rifles, one in 223 AI, the other a 20 Practical, both with 6 – 24 x 50 scopes using Hogue stocks.

We shot a little over 200 dogs total, me 98 of them. Which wasn’t bad shooting because I only shot 115 rounds total.

.

  • Total dogs for this trip: 98
  • Rifles used on this trip: 223 AI and 20 Practicle
  • TOTAL VARMINTS for the year : 187
