2017 Trip #8

Wyoming with Ash and myself, this trip didn’t start off very well.  We headed to Lance Creek, WY to a ranch we shot some last year.  Almost got stuck and didn’t find many prairie dogs.  We only shoot maybe 15, a bust.  After that we headed into Lusk, WY to stay overnight.  Headed out the next morning to a ranch in Thunder Basin Grass Land.

The ranch is about 30 – 35 miles due East of Bill, WY.  On some of the roughest gravel roads I’ve traveled.  I tried driving on the side, middle, the other side, didn’t help.  I even slowed way down but that was worse.  We did finally make it there in one piece.  The ranch has several thousand acres of land with, they say, 50 percent coverage.

The ranch this year had several shooters.  We still shot 516 prairie dogs in 11 hours.  They have a lot of land leased from the government.  We could’t drive on it.  We managed to get a few dogs there.

The ranch as a whole had been shot hard due to being late in the year.  Although we still had good shooting.  In the spring the shooting should be great.

Although the big problem is the distance to a Motel and food.  Consequently the ranch has that somewhat taken care of with a trailer house to rent by the night. Finally food is available if needed, for a price.  A call ahead would be needed.  The ranch is the Fiddleback Ranch on Lynch Road.

I used my 223 Rem AR and 20 Practical  this trip.

Over-all we had a good trip.  We shot 516 prairie dog, me 256 of them.
