6 BR

What my 6 BR looked like before and after the gunsmith worked on it.

To start my new 6 BR my gunsmith change the stock to a Boyde Thumbhole because of the size of the barrel. It also helped get just a little more length of pull.  I had bought a #8 contour, 1 – 10 twist, 30 inch match grade Shilen barrel.  A Dave Kiff (Pacific Tool and Gage) blue printed action with large bolt handle at the Shot Show (2017).

When all was said and done I ended up with a 15 lb 27 3/4 in barreled rifle including muzzle break.  I don’t have a problem with the weight because I shoot mostly from some kind of a rest.  A table with rest, out the truck window, or across the truck in some way.

The 6mm BR is the largest caliber I shoot.  The reason for this is I want to shoot only rifles that use the small rifle primer.

I started right off using Hornady 58 gr VMax.  The 1 in 10 twist stabilized them just fine.  Later I tried the 55 gr Nosler BT and 70 gr Speer TNT HP, all with great results.  I’ve barley broke it in.  It shot well on one trip and had very good luck with ammo I had loaded for my Left Handed 6 BR.  I don’t think I’ll need to change much.  I don’t shoot hot loads, I want my barrels to last.  With that said I’ll need to check out different seating depth for this new rifle.  It has, I’m sure, a much different chamber, I shall find out.

I hope to get to Idaho this year (2018) and spent a few days shooting rockchucks.  A few years ago I used my 6 x 45, a 223 case necked up to 6 mm, and shot 28 in one day.  The day before the weather wasn’t great and in less than 3 hours I only shot 5.

If I was to go after rockchucks or coyote again, I would take the new 6 BR.
